Question 1

How do I dust hardwood furniture?

Accepted Answer

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth in the direction of the grain. Dampen the cloth only lightly for stubborn dust, then dry the surface right away so water never sits on the wood.

Question 2

How do I clean fabric upholstery?

Accepted Answer

Vacuum cushions and crevices weekly with an upholstery attachment. For spills, blot with a clean cloth and never rub. Test any cleaner on a hidden spot first.

Question 3

How do I care for leather?

Accepted Answer

Keep leather out of direct sunlight and away from heat vents. Wipe with a dry cloth and condition it a few times a year with a leather conditioner.

Question 4

How do I prevent fading?

Accepted Answer

Sunlight fades fabric and darkens wood over time. Rotate cushions and close blinds during the brightest hours.

Question 5

How do I avoid water rings and heat marks?

Accepted Answer

Use coasters under drinks and trivets under hot dishes. Water and heat can leave rings and marks on a finished wood surface.

Question 6

Should I polish hardwood?

Accepted Answer

A quality furniture polish a few times a year keeps the finish protected. Skip waxes or sprays that leave a cloudy film.
